Basic guide to using a VPN

By now we know that offers a whole bunch of services. There are multiple VPN Server destinations are available to our premium members. Let’s take a better look.

What is a VPN?

A VPN or Virtual Private Network is a method used to add security and privacy to your Internet Connection.

It works quite simple: You set it up on any of your devices (PC, Mac, Smartphone, Tablet, …) and from the second you activate it all your traffic is tunneled through one of our servers.  So, to the outside world it just looks like our server does all the surfing and downloading.

What is the Difference between using a VPN on top of vs no VPN at all?

This can be a bit confusing and is a frequent question. If you do not have a VPN activated only the individual services (like Filehost Download or the Torrent Cloud) are tunneled and encrypted. So, even if you do not setup the VPN and only use the our other services, you are secured

However by using our VPN your whole computers internet connection and all of your sent and received data is encrypted through a secure channel.

How to set it up?

We have made detailed guides available here. Make sure to contact our helpdesk, if you run into any issues.

  1. I’d rather just set one up on my home computer. Although I guess I’m kind of lucky because my college has a VPN server (I think mainly so students can access on-campus resources from off campus, like network shares and such) so I don’t have to pay for one if I need to use one.
